Making our temporary house a home...

It's been about 3 weeks since Chad and I moved to the great state of Alabama. If you've been following along on my insta stories (@lifeloveandpineapples) you're probably aware that it's been raining a lot (!!!) but thankfully the sun has finally come out and it's so beautiful here!! This photo was taken at Chad's soccer game, it was raining off and on the whole time but when it cleared up it was so gorgeous!!!

While we have been enjoying exploring our new city and finding all the cool things to do, it was also really important to me to keep whatever I could the same.  Transitions are hard and keeping some things feeling like home really help battle any homesickness.  Below are a few things I have done to maintain some consistency in our lives that are in a time full of change!

Tip #1: wearing things with meaning!

This is my nightstand... so it's a little crazy with the jewelry and bracelets (I know, I know the OCD side of me is dying a little right now).  These are my bracelets that I reach for on the daily and having them all out like this kind of feels like a tiny shiny mountain of home :) Also, we don't have the best storage situation at the moment so sorry babe, on the nightstand they shall live!
My favorite thing about these bracelets are that they all have a story! Some pieces are gifts from my mom or Chad, and others are ones I've gotten during friends weddings.  I got a stack of mint Ermish Bracelets after my goodbye lunch with the girls from my office (who also happen to be some of my best friends) and I think of them every time I wear them.  So while it may look like a crazy mess of a stack, to me it's a little mountain of memories and searching through them every morning brings back so many happy memories!! Eventually in our new home I'll have them all organized but for now I like looking at them every day :)

TIp #2: Bring the cozy with you

So Alabama is hot, like super hot!! Naturally, we are keeping our apartment super cold so having something familiar and cozy is a must!  One of my best friends Mom made us this blanket and it is so special to us! I know that it was made with love and it's super cozy to snuggle with! Even if it's not cold I'm still always reaching for it constantly!

I also found this really cool scent warmer from Bath and Body Works.  Being in a small space I don't really like to have candles lit, so I bought this warmer to add a yummy smell without the flame! It also puts off a really nice soft light at night. Right now I have a warm sugar marshmallow smell and it is soo good! I normally reach for light fruity smells in the warm months but I love the way it makes me feel warm and fuzzy!

Here is a close up of our scent warmer/light :) I love the flower lattice work sleeve!

Tip #3: Keeping your routine the same!

For as long as I can remember I have been drinking this coffee creamer.  I may have gone between a few different k-cups but this creamer is always my go-to! I have been known to buy more than one in this jumbo size because I love it so much!!  Waking up in a new environment is so strange and it takes a while to get used to it, but having my regular coffee and creamer helps me start the day with some familiarity and always puts me in a good mood (especially when a certain someone brings me coffee in bed before he leaves for work! I know, I know #spoiled)

If you've made it all the way to the bottom of this post thanks for sticking it out! I know it's been a little long! if you have any tips or tricks for moving and making your new place more homey I'd love to hear about them in the comments!
